Honest appraisal.
I have owned Fred since May 2023. Within a couple of weeks, despite only hacking around the village, his tendons became filled. Since then I have spent thousands on scans/laser treatment/weekly ultrasound/every tendon supplement/boots on the market. However, throughout this time he has remained sound.
He has lovely paces. When he trots, he is like a hovercraft, he comes up and powers forward. He has a lovely temperament, but when ridden, he is sharp and needs to be worked. He isn't nappy and will more than happily hack out on his own, doesn't spook, can be ridden in any weather, really good in traffic, but he is definitely, NOT A HAPPY HACKER.
Earlier this year, he went to Withcote Lodge for 8 weeks, where Harriet Bishop did a brilliant job restarting him. They had no problems with him when he was there as he had a regular routine and was ridden by confident riders.
His ideal home is somewhere he is ridden by a capable confident rider most days and has a job to do. Because of his tendons, I wouldn't want him jumping, but with additional training, he would do a cracking dressage test so someone interested in dressage would be perfect.
I am presently walking/trotting him around the village most days, but I have no facilities, so anyone interested would be almost be taking him as he is. He will only be loaned to someone I think is capable of riding him.
