I bought Ravanelli, known at home as Raphie, in July last year whilst deep in grief after losing my heart horse just a couple of weeks before. In hindsight this was not the right decision. He finished racing June 2024, retiring sound as his heart wasn't in it. He raced only 5 times and was near the back every time!
I'm the wrong side of 50 with a full time job which requires time away from home as well as many family commitments, and cannot give him what he needs now to progress. Raphie has had the very best gentle transition process whilst with me and we have ticked many boxes. I can honestly say he has not put a foot wrong and will make someone very happy.
He hacks happily with others and has hacked alone with a person on foot and I think he will be happy alone in time. He's good to lunge, long rein and has started light ridden schooling, although he is still growing and young so I haven't over done this but he is a very fast learner and understood leg yield on the first attempt!
He's happy to be turned out in a group or alone (as long as others are around of course), he's also very happy in his stable and enjoys afternoon naps!
His feet are excellent and he's currently unshod but will come with hoof boots which were professionally fitted in September.
Raphie had his teeth recently checked (no sedation needed as he was a superstar) and he's had regular physio checks. I honestly can't fault him - he is just ready to go on to his next role and needs to be doing something as he's a big young horse and needs to be active.
He has a small sarcoid on his inner thigh (not obvious) and this does not cause any issues. I have had vets advice that it could be removed with laser treatment with standing sedation but as yet I've chosen to keep an eye on it.
This lovely boy is an absolute stunner and everyone who meets him falls in love with him as he demands attention and loves cuddles. He's a real character.
Ideally I'd like him to be somewhere with lots of turnout (grazing) and a varied life. I'm hoping there's a young rider out there to take on this special horse and help him fulfil his potential. He has the most amazing floaty trot and I guarantee he will turn heads. Not an easy decision for me but the right one for Raphie.
