Seven year-old bay, out of training for over a year. Had an easy summer last year, and brought to a family home in autumn. We have kept him ticking over with lots of hacking and some light basic schooling, and some new experiences to educate him in being a normal horse. He’s so cooperative and keen to please.
He has largely lived out over winter and has done well, although now I look at the photos, I can see he will need a bit of building up with some fresh grass.
Best points:
Hacks alone, no spooking, solid in traffic. Clipped perfectly. Loads onto a trailer with ease. Perfect with farrier and vet. Lovely to fuss and groom. To ride he is smooth and forward. Has popped small jumps willingly. Has been reliable in open spaces, although strong on the couple of times I have found open canters - remembered he was a racehorse! Possible change of bit and confident rider will sort this out. Took him to forest on his own at weekend and he was so brave and sweet - loved exploring and wandered belly deep into the river paddling spot with pleasure!
Reasons I won’t keep him: change of circumstance with daughter-sharer going away and him being a bit too thoroughbred for me on my own.
His shopping list for the perfect home:
MUST send him somewhere with other horses that he can buddy up with, and preferably travel and go on days out with. I think he will be much calmer and more confident, although he has tried his heart out in his solo circumstances.
Turnout - He has lived out because he has not been 100% happy in the stable when the other horse has followed a different turnout schedule. Strangely, he has been perfectly happy in his part-time stable at my own house. A knowledgeable home with a good routine can certainly crack this.
Knowledgeable, competent, KIND home to bring him on, build him up, and get the best out of him - I have to admit my limits and say I don’t have the time and skill to turn him into what he can be.
This lovely horse is desperate for a partnership and has a lot of love to give. He doesn’t deserve to be moved on anymore, so someone who will commit to him and his education is important.
Price invites serious buyers who actually have the money to afford a horse, but reflects that he is not the finished article. Can include fitted saddle.
